What is the best tripod on which to mount a 500mm or 600mm lens?

Today there are only two realistic choices, the Gitzo  Carbon Fiber 1325 for most telephoto lenses, and the Gitzo 1548 for the heavier 600mm f/4 and 400mm f/2.8 lenses.  Both are strong and sturdy and lighter than the older, heavier Gitzo Pro-Studex models like those in the 340 (now 1340) series and in the 410 (now 1410) series. I absolutely love my carbon fiber tripods.  The 1325 and the Canon 500mm F/4 L IS lens make a relatively lightweight combination that is hard to beat for birds and general wildlife photography.
