IMPORTANT
NOTE
Distribution of
BIRDS AS ART On-Line Bulletins and Notes is handled by a wonderful
program: Group Mail Pro. Many e-mail providers have severe
restrictions on incoming mail. Some bounce back all e-mails with
attachments, others kick back e-mails greater than a certain size,
and still others reject all group e-mails as spam. With some-0-but
not all--bounced e-mails, Group Mail Pro automatically deletes the
recipient's name from the subscriber list. If that happens to you,
you may need to re-subscribe. Or, you may simply opt to check every
week and view the latest Bulletins and Notes in the Bulletin

PREPARING IMAGES FOR ON-LINE TRANSMISSION
For sending images on line, it is best
to follow these guidelines:
Size the image at 525 pixels on the
long side. In Photoshop, click SAVE FOR WEB.
Select j-peg high.
Note the size in "k" in the lower left
portion of the window. You want to size the image at just under
95 k so that they are quickly and easily transmitted.
Where it says, "Quality" adjust the
percentage up (to produce a larger file) or down (to produce
a smaller file) as needed. To re-calculate the size, click on the
black arrow just above the word Optimized.
Keep adjusting the percentage until
the size is just under 95k.
That's it.

If you are interested in having your best
images critiqued by yours truly, here is a link to the details:

I forgot also to include John Emerson's (kind)
comments on the critique of his work. Here is what he wrote:
Your BAA
Critique Service has got to be one of the best bargains ever. The
problem patterns that you picked up in my composition would have
stayed there for who-knows-how-long without your help. Like a lot of
other weekend warriors out there are trying to improve their
skills, I find myself getting into these ruts and bad
habits. Having a highly skilled pair of eyes like yours that have
been fine-tuned over nearly 20 years of professional experience to
help me improve is a HUGE value. The other piece of the value
proposition is that you effectively communicate this information.
Thanks for all your help.
FYI - you are correct. The White-tailed Kite, Acorn Woodpecker,
Nutall's Woodpecker, and Pacific-slope Flycatcher were all digital
captures. After 6+ months of research and analysis; I made the
decision last March to sell all of my film bodies, switched to the
Canon EOS 1D, and never looked back.

I
need to hear about any mistakes/typos/errors that you might find in
"The Art of Bird Photography" no later than November 10, which is
this Sunday. Thanks for your help!
