BIRDS AS ART ON-LINE Notes February 12,
2003
Tanzania Photo Safari

Woodland Kingfisher, Tarangire
NP, Tanzania
EOS 1Ds, Canon 500mm f/4 L IS
lens, 2X II TC
ISO 400, Evaluative metering
-2/3 stop: 1/320 at fll
The 5 IS and the 2XII TC are a
deadly combination. Being able to switch ISO from one frame to the
next is a huge digital advantage.

"Opal" Sunset Tarangire NP,
Tanzania
Canon 100-400mm IS Zoom lens
handheld at 220mm
EOS 1Ds, ISO 50, Evaluative
Metering -1/3 stop: 1/320 at f/5.0
Again, the versatility of the
1-4 zoom while traveling light is a Godsend.
TANZANIA PHOTO SAFARI
Amazingly, three of the ten available spots on
the JAN/FEB Gustafson/BIRDS AS ART Tanzania Photo Safari are filled
already. If you are interested in joining Todd and I on safari, see
Bulletin 98 which should be in the archives tonight.

Lioness in Tree, Manyara NPk,
Tanzania
EOS 1D, Canon 100-400mm IS Zoom
lens at 300mm
ISO 400, Evaluative Metering
+1/3 stop: 1/100 sec. at f/5.6
IS saved the day while working
at 300mm and only 1/100 sec. After photographing two lions in the
tree in front of us, we looked straight up only to find a huge
female only 10 feet above us, and I mean directly
above us!
